A two-phase renovation of a Fort Greene townhouse explored millwork as spatial infrastructure rather than finish.

  • A two-phase renovation of a Fort Greene townhouse explored millwork as spatial infrastructure rather than finish. Custom library shelving replaces traditional partitions and is supported by strategically inserted structural steel framing. Together, these elements organize circulation and storage across the garden level.

Client-specific needs informed the design, including an integrated catwalk system surmounting the library bookshelves. The catwalk provides vantage points and access for their cats even when bedroom sliding doors are closed.

Exterior decks extend the interior logic outdoors, cascading from the parlor level to the garden as inhabitable furniture, surface, and circulation. Integrated storage and a built-in banquette wrap the stair-adjacent under-deck volume. Interior and exterior elements form a continuous circuit between parlor and garden levels, reinforcing spatial continuity and access across.
